how do you decide what salon to go to? are the really expensive ones better or are you just paying for the snootiness factor?

I think color is important to go somewhere great. I pay a lot but it sets the tone for my skin, make up and clothes. I don't want brassy!

Agreed that's it's all about the "Who" of who is cutting you r hair, rather than judging strictly on price. If you can really connect with your stylists personality and personal take on style it is so much easier to get the exact cut you desire as well as tips for what is best for your hair, face shape, lifestyle, etc. Sometimes I even think it is best to wander around the salon before scheduling an appointment and seeing what the envorinment is like as well as the diversity of the stylists.

I agree that it's worth paying a little more for color but you can get a great cut at a reasonable price. Just find a stylist that works for you & stick to him/her. It's not about the salon, it's about who's cutting your hair

i go to a place near my apt in boston and pay $25 for wash, cut, blow dry -- my stylist is amazing and i always leave there happy. she def has convinced me that you dont have to spend a ton of money for a good cut.

I think a lot depends on the stylist, not just the salon. you have to find somebody who is going to be honest. anybody know a good stylist/salon in nyc that's not too expensive?

it is kind of nice to go to a one-stop shopping - hair, nails, eyebrows, etc. all at once.

Yeah. I go to supercuts and pay $30 for shampoo, cut and eyebrow wax and I am happy with my results. But, if you do color, you should go to someone you trust. Go to them for cuts for a while and then try coloring. You can always dye it back if you dont like it! but there is no need to spend hundreds of dollars on cuts, its is not worth it!
