Over the weekend, I brunched next to a woman who had paired the mesh-paneled Alex Wang skirt with a slim, rolled-sleeve white oxford and simple black patent flats. For as edgy a skirt as it is, the overall look came off on the cool side of preppy. Similarly, while in LA last week, I saw a girl sporting a ‘Swiss cheese’ crop top almost identical to the White Trumpet tee shown below who’d worn hers over a simple strapless sheath. Topped off with gladiator sandals and Ray Ban aviators, the look was unique, edgy-pretty, and surprisingly, not as trying-too-hard as it sounds.
If nothing else, try a fun cutout cuff or shoe—they’re everywhere these days (at every price point) and inject instant cool into even the most conservative outfit.
