This week, the designers couldn’t believe their ears. Both the mini-challenge and elimination challenge required them to pair up again in teams. Becky Newton surprised the contestants, and instructed them to transform interns from party girls to professionals for the mini-challenge. Team Johnny R. and Merlin came out on top with their conservative yet trendy skirt suit.
The elimination challenge was unlike any other – design a garment inspired by Isaac Mizrahi’s mood board in under 8 hours! As if being in teams wasn’t stressful enough, now the designers had to create a look just for Isaac with no time to spare.
Reco and Daniella clearly have different visions when it comes to inspiration. As Daniella fought for a pantsuit, Reco urged for a gown. On the other hand, Anna and Haven appear like-minded, and worked well as a team creating a tribal-inspired ensemble.
As all the designs came together, Merlin and Johnny R. found themselves lucky as they got five minutes alone with Isaac to discuss their vision of a structured plaid skirt and black jacket after winning the mini-challenge.
The audience adored Haven and Anna’s culottes, as did guest judge Veronica Webb. Webb thought the ‘technical coat’ was outstanding, and named them the winners.
Lidia and James-Paul created a fishtail patterned dress with an oversized jacket that did not mesh. Although Daniella and Reco’s floral ‘granny’ pants and orange coat was not an audience favorite, Webb decided to send Lidia home due to the ill fit on her model.
Even if some of the designs didn't make the cut, the hair however, was amazing. For salon-perfect hair that can stand up to any competition, go to:

The challenge this week was all based on Isaac’s mood. That’s mood board. And apparently he was in a pretty good one with its display of bright plaids, neon and ornate fabrics to inspire his new collection. Surprisingly enough, the designer’s collaboration was a success with multi-color patterned designs complementing each other on the catwalk. Reco and Daniella were butting heads from the very beginning. Big surprise. Culottes are back as Haven and Anna create a “very Mizrahi” design. Would you don a facsimile of the winning look?
